Speaking during the release of the 2025 Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) results, Zachariah Matur, the Acting Chairperson of Parliament’s Education Committee, said lawmakers were worried that public schools continue to lag behind private institutions despite receiving government support.
Matur's remarks came after the Ministry of General Education and Instruction announced the results of the 2025 examinations, which once again showed private schools dominating the top rankings nationwide.
“Hon. Minister, we would like to bring to your attention our concern over the performance of public schools,” Matur said during the event.
“The performance of public schools is very low, and this is not encouraging for us in Parliament, especially because we have allocated funds to support them.”
According to the examination results, no public school featured among the country's top ten best-performing schools.

Likewise, none of the top ten students nationally came from a public institution, highlighting what many education stakeholders view as a growing gap between public and private education standards.
