NDM–Patriotic Front Backs US UN Warning on South Sudan Elections, Calls for Dialogue and Arms Embargo Renewal

The National Democratic Movement–Patriotic Front (NDM-PF) has expressed support for recent remarks made by the United States representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mike Waltz, who warned that South Sudan is not yet in a position to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.

In a statement released on 6 May 2026, the movement said the current political and security environment in South Sudan remains “fragile and insufficient” to support a legitimate electoral process.

It cautioned that rushing into elections under present conditions could worsen instability and deepen existing political divisions across the country.

Instead of immediate elections, NDM-PF is calling for an urgent and inclusive national dialogue aimed at addressing the root causes of conflict.

The group argues that such a process would help build lasting peace, strengthen institutions, and create a more stable foundation for democratic governance in the future.READ FULL STORY.
