Tragedy in Koch County as Truck Accident Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Girl

A tragic road accident in Koch County, Unity State, has left residents in shock after a 13-year-old girl lost her life when she was struck by a truck linked to a construction company operating in the area.

According to local authorities and eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on Friday last week under circumstances that are still being investigated.

The vehicle involved is said to belong to Aloni Naoh Construction Company, which is currently undertaking the construction of the Leer airstrip.

The Director of Highway Traffic Police in Unity State, Major Domai Dak Kai, confirmed the fatal incident and stated that the truck driver has been arrested as part of ongoing investigations.

Authorities say the driver was initially apprehended in Mayiendit County after allegedly fleeing the scene and was later transferred to Koch County headquarters for further questioning.

Police have launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials are examining several possible factors, including speeding, driver negligence, and mechanical failure, as they work to establish what led to the fatal collision.

“This is a very unfortunate incident, and we are committed to ensuring that all the facts are established,” Dak said, while urging motorists to observe road safety rules and exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies.

Local residents have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young girl, describing the incident as devastating for the community.

Many have called for increased awareness of road safety and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, especially in areas where construction vehicles frequently operate.

Authorities also noted that this is the first recorded case of its kind in Mirmir Payam this year, with no similar incidents reported in the area during the previous year.

However, the tragedy has reignited concerns about the risks posed by heavy vehicles in rural communities, where road infrastructure and safety measures are often limited.
